A special meeting held by Lansford Borough Council to tentatively adopt the Borough’s 2026 budget could not be held due to a lack of attendance from several members of council, with four sitting members absent.

This all comes after a previous motion to tentatively adopt the budget last week was tabled. Lansford Borough Council now has fourteen days left to pass the budget before the deadline of December 31.

Those who were in attendance were Council President Bruce Markovitch, Councilwoman Gwyneth Collevechio, and Councilman Joseph Butire.

Markovitch would address a member of the public sitting in on the meeting before it was cancelled, where he laid out what could happen if the budget is not passed in time. “If we don’t have a budget passed by the end of December, December 31, we can’t make any new purchases. We can still do payroll, we can still do bill…”

Absent were Councilmen Jack Soberick and George Gilbert. Soberick had also been absent for all budget meetings held in September and October, according to official Borough meeting minutes. Councilwomen Jennifer Staines and Michele Bartek were absent as well. Also not in attendance were Mayor Hugh Vrablic and Borough Solicitor Robert Yurchak.

CC Broadcasting LLC. will continue to report on this matter as it develops.
